Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving has always been a tradition in my family.  My parents did the knife work when I was too little.  Then, my sister and I carved them as we got more grown-up.  Even though we lived about a quarter-mile from the street and hardly had any trick-or-treaters because we lived in the country, we still had a shining Jack-O-Lantern each year just like the kids in town.

I carried on the tradition with my children and they scooped out the guts until they were grown-up enough to carve it all alone themselves.  Our only trick-or-treaters were usually the two little girls across the road but we still had a shining Jack-O-Lantern each year just the same.

That tradition goes on.  We were sent photos of the grands crafting their Jack-O-Lanterns.  As you can tell, it is intense work.

Everybody participates in some way or another.  Sometimes napping while the carving takes place is the most important participation for some!

Of course, the finished product has to be shared and admired.
